Running on Empty: The Lost Promise of “The Lucky One”

The pandemic gave me time to watch all kinds of television shows and movies, even (or perhaps especially) the bad ones. One night I just wanted some eye candy, so I watched The Lucky One starring Zac Efron. It’s a movie based on a 2008 Nicholas Sparks novel in which a returning Marine looks up a woman whose picture seems to be a lucky charm for him while serving in Iraq.
